Beckhoff manufactures the EP5151-0002 as part of its EP Digital Input Modules series. The device is a decentralized input block that records differential signals from incremental encoders and forwards them over the EtherCAT fieldbus. By bringing the sensor interface directly onto the machine frame, it reduces cabinet wiring and enables distributed acquisition of high-speed position data required for synchronous motion control in packaging, material-handling, and assembly equipment. Power for the sensing electronics can deliver up to 0.5 A, routed to the feedback device through an M12 socket, 8-pin port, which supports the incremental encoder used on the channel. Position information is resolved with a 4-fold evaluation quadrature decoder, and an internal latch captures the zero pulse with 16-bit resolution for homing routines. The compact size of 30 x 126 x 26.5 mm permits installation alongside other IP67 modules on machine tooling without increasing enclosure depth.
