Product Description:
The EP4174-0002 is produced by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series, although it functions as a compact analog I/O block for distributed automation. Installed directly on the machine, it delivers voltage or current signals to actuators while exchanging process data over the plant network. A sealed housing and M12 supply connectors allow the module to operate outside the control cabinet, so it extends an EtherCAT-based architecture into wet or vibration-prone zones without additional enclosures. Because the analog interface is placed close to the load, field wiring can remain shorter and signal routing can be kept more direct across the machine.
The network link follows the EtherCAT protocol and is presented on two shielded M8 sockets that maintain deterministic timing in chained topologies with distances of up to 30 m between nodes. Each of the four channels converts internal digital words to analog levels with 16 bits of resolution, which supports fine setpoint adjustment in closed-loop drives or proportional valves. Supply power is derived from the plant control voltage at 24 VDC, while the electronics draw only a small internal current and the outputs use a separate supply rail for field loads. The housing measures 30 mm x 126 mm x 26.5 mm, so it fits easily in tight installation spaces near sensors, valves, and other distributed devices.
Total load on the output supply is limited to 4 A max, which allows multiple connected loads before another feed becomes necessary. In voltage mode, the module supports -10...+10 V as well as 0 to +10 V operation, and in current mode it supplies 0...20 mA as well as 4 to 20 mA for compatible field circuits. Bus continuity is retained through an integrated M12 signal header that routes analog lines separately from the fieldbus, helping keep communication and output wiring organized. Electrical insulation and chemical resistance come from the PA6 (polyamide) housing, and the module’s four-pin M8 daisy-chained ports reduce the need for separate branch hardware on the machine.
