Product Description:

The EP3752-0000 is an EtherCAT-based digital input module in Beckhoff's EP Digital Input Modules series. It combines motion sensing with distributed I/O, allowing a controller to collect vibration and tilt information directly on the machine frame. By digitizing acceleration signals inside the housing, the unit eliminates external transducers and simplifies cabling in automated assembly lines, test rigs, and predictive maintenance stations. Because sensing and I/O are combined in one housing, the module can be mounted near the source of motion instead of relying on separate measurement hardware.

The module uses two integrated MEMS 3-axis accelerometers that sample motion at up to 5 kHz, so high-frequency vibrations are captured without aliasing. The EtherCAT interface supports a minimum process cycle of 200 µs, allowing fast closed-loop response when sudden impacts are detected. Each measurement uses a raw width of 10-bit; combined with a default resolution of 4 mg and an output scale of 1 mg/LSB, this granularity suits condition-monitoring tasks. Operation from a control-cabinet supply is straightforward because the electronics are rated for a nominal 24 V DC input. Two M8, 4-pin sockets form the EtherCAT port chain, and the raw sensor data are forwarded without preprocessing. A 90° sensor offset is set at the factory to align the internal axes with common mounting orientations.

The field unit draws only 120 mA from the 24 V rail, yet it passes up to 4 A through the L+ line to power downstream nodes and reduce the need for separate feeds. Its compact footprint of 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm fits tight machine spaces, and the glass-fiber-reinforced PA6 enclosure withstands oils and coolants. Installation uses 3.5 mm mounting holes, and cable strain relief is maintained by tightening the M8 connectors to 0.4 Nm. This layout supports direct machine mounting close to the source of vibration, which helps preserve signal quality over short sensor paths.
