The EP3744-1041 belongs to the EP Digital Input Modules series produced by Beckhoff. It is an IP-rated fieldbus box that combines discrete signal collection with integrated pneumatic sensing so a controller can monitor on-machine switches while observing process pressures in the same enclosure. Within automated cells, it replaces separate pressure transducers and terminal blocks, reducing wiring and bringing all data onto EtherCAT for centralized logic.
The unit operates from a control supply of 24 VDC; this voltage powers the internal electronics and supplies the connected sensors and status LEDs. Six debounced channels accept proximity sensors or limit switches, with 6 digital inputs, while two solid-state drivers provide 2 digital outputs for pilot valves or indicator lamps. For pneumatic feedback, it records absolute pressures from 0 to 7 bar and differential pressures from −7 to +7 bar, allowing both vacuum and positive gauge conditions to be tracked. Each pressure port is safeguarded; accidental spikes up to 21 bar abs will not damage the silicon element. Measurement is transferred to the bus in 16-bit words, yielding 65,536 steps across the selected span, and the stated measurement error remains within 3% of full scale.
A resolution of 1 mbar/LSB lets the PLC detect fine pneumatic fluctuations when supervising filter integrity or leak tests. Sampling and transmission occur every 700 µs, so the module can participate in fast control loops without causing jitter in synchronous tasks. Four push-in fittings accommodate 6 mm tubing, and a dedicated reference port ties all gauge measurements to a common atmosphere. Digital loads may draw up to 0.5 A in total, while sensor inputs sink only 3 mA each, keeping overall cabinet power budgets low.
