Product Description:
The EP3314-0002 is a temperature and millivolt acquisition module manufactured by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. Intended for decentralized machine installations, it captures low-level sensor signals and relays the digitized data over EtherCAT, giving controllers precise real-time feedback for industrial automation tasks. Placing signal acquisition close to the machine helps keep analog signal paths short and reduces exposure to electrical noise before transmission.
The module operates from a field supply of 24 VDC and draws 120 mA for its internal electronics. Each of its four differential input channels is digitized with 16-bit resolution, producing fine measurement steps across the configured range. The conversion logic completes a full sample set every 250 ms, a cycle time suitable for slowly changing temperature profiles and similar analog variables. To safeguard the measurement circuit, the input stage limits the measurable signal to ±75 mV, preventing over-range data from saturating the A/D converter. All inputs use the 2-wire principle, which simplifies cabling and supports straightforward sensor connections. The module supports four sensors, enabling multi-point monitoring on one EtherCAT drop.
Bus continuity comes from the 2 x M8 socket, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded EtherCAT ports, so the block mounts inline without extra junctions. For temperature compensation, the internal reference uses a Pt1000 cold-junction element, improving accuracy when thermocouples are installed far from the process. The aggregate load on the 24 V supply can reach 4 A because the module forwards current to connected sensors through its four M12 sockets. Wiring must be sized accordingly. Cabling may extend to 30 m between the device and the sensor head without exceeding signal integrity margins. The housing measures 30 mm in width, 26.5 mm in depth, and 126 mm in height, which suits compact machine frames. Each input lands on a 4-pin M12 socket, and the enclosure withstands common factory contaminants.
