Product Description:

The EP3184-1002 is a compact EtherCAT box module produced by Beckhoff for distributed signal acquisition at the machine level. It provides four single-ended voltage channels and sends the measured data to a PLC over the EtherCAT network. By placing the conversion electronics close to the sensors, the module reduces long cabinet wiring runs and supports analog measurement in demanding automation environments. Rugged M12 and M8 connectors are used for power, I/O, and network connections.

Each channel is digitized with a 16-bit converter, so the input signal is represented in 65,536 discrete steps. An input filter with a cutoff frequency of 5 kHz helps reduce upstream noise while remaining suitable for typical process signals. Measurement data pass through two EtherCAT M8 sockets, and galvanic isolation of the bus is rated at 500 V to limit the effects of ground potential differences between neighboring nodes. The electronics operate from a local auxiliary supply with a nominal sensor rail of 24 VDC, and the internal circuitry draws only 120 mA. The four inputs share a minimum resistance of 200 kΩ, which keeps loading low on high-impedance transducers.

A powered segment can supply additional I/O boxes as long as the total sensor current does not exceed 4 A. Good signal quality is maintained when the cable length between the sensor and the module stays within 30 m. Factory calibration keeps full-scale deviation within 0.3 % FS Max., reducing the need for field adjustment. The housing measures 30 x 126 x 26.5 mm, allowing compact placement beside other IP67 pluggable modules. Two five-pin M12 sockets carry the analog channels with two inputs per socket, while two four-pin M8 sockets complete the EtherCAT daisy chain.
