Product Description:
The EP3184-0002 is an analog input module produced by Beckhoff as part of the EP series. Designed for distributed I/O architectures, the device captures voltage or current signals from field sensors and makes them available to higher-level controllers. By integrating signal conditioning in an IP-rated metal body, the unit lets machine builders place acquisition hardware directly on the machine frame, eliminating lengthy cable runs and additional cabinet space. This arrangement is useful when sensors are mounted far from the control cabinet or on moving machine sections.
Four single-ended channels are wired through four M12, 5-pin sockets, removing the need for terminal blocks on the machine. Each measurement is digitized with 16-bit resolution, including sign, giving 65,536 discrete steps across the selected range. A per-channel conversion time of 100 µs supports fast signal updates, while the filter stage limits input bandwidth to 5 kHz to suppress high-frequency noise. Channel-to-bus isolation of 500 V helps protect the controller from field transients. Selectable ranges of ±10 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA, and 4 to 20 mA accommodate both voltage and current sensors. External transmitters can be supplied because the module provides a sensor power rail rated for 0 to 30 VDC, and that same range is accepted on the Up auxiliary input. Total measurement uncertainty stays within 0.3% of full scale. Environmental sealing to IP65/IP66/IP67 allows mounting in wet or dusty areas without an additional enclosure.
The compact enclosure measures 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, making it suitable for tight mounting locations such as narrow rails, machine frames, or robotic assemblies. A minimum input resistance of 200 kΩ limits the current drawn from high-impedance probes and helps preserve signal integrity over long leads. Logic circuitry is powered from the plant bus at 24 VDC (-15% / +20%), so no secondary supply is required for the electronics. Continuous operation is specified between -25 to +60 °C, supporting installation in cold-storage conveyors or outdoor equipment exposed to changing temperatures.
