Product Description:
The EP3182-1002 is an I/O module produced by Beckhoff for the EP Digital Input Modules series. Installed directly on the machine frame, it links field sensors and actuators to an EtherCAT network. Within an automation cell, the unit captures low-level process signals and returns status data to the controller, removing the need for parallel wiring looms. By combining analog measurement and limited-current digital output in one sealed enclosure, it supports decentralized installations with short sensor leads.
Signal acquisition is handled by two analog inputs routed through 5-pin M12 sockets. Each channel is single-ended and presents an input resistance of at least 200 kΩ, so connected transducers are not excessively loaded. Conversion is performed at a 16-bit resolution, including the sign bit. The full-scale measurement error does not exceed 0.3% of full scale. To protect upstream electronics, the input stage withstands 30 V of dielectric stress. Galvanic separation between the field side and the logic domain is rated at 500 V. The EtherCAT connection uses two M8, 4-pin bus sockets, allowing the network to continue in a daisy-chain arrangement without external hubs. The maximum permitted cable distance between modules is 30 m when standard shielded cord sets are used.
The module also provides two sink- or source-configurable digital channels that switch a field supply of 24 VDC. Each output can deliver up to 2 mA per channel, making the channels suitable for indicator lamps or solid-state relay drivers. Internal copper traces support a cumulative field current of 4 A. The field supply also powers the onboard electronics through the US nominal-voltage rail. Runtime diagnostics report open-circuit and overload events locally through LED indicators. The module maintains deterministic timing for EtherCAT process-data cycles, supporting synchronized signal updates across the connected automation network.
