Product Description:

The EP3174-0092 is an EtherCAT input module manufactured by Beckhoff in the EP Digital Input Modules series. It converts field sensor voltages into data a PLC can read, supporting decentralized machine control. A compact overmolded housing mounts directly on machinery and preserves IP-rated protection, so wiring stays short and orderly. By merging power distribution and data exchange, the unit streamlines signal acquisition in industrial automation.

It offers 4 differential measurement channels that accept ±10 V signals from strain gauges, potentiometers, or other low-level sources. The converter uses a resolution of 16-bit, including sign for fine scaling of those inputs. Systematic error is limited to 0.3 %FS, keeping the reading consistent over temperature and time. A digital filter caps bandwidth at 5 kHz so high-frequency noise is removed before conversion, yet transient steps are still tracked accurately. Sensors attach through 4 x M12 sockets, 5-pin, and the wiring runs as differential pairs, improving common-mode rejection against ground shifts. The input resistance is 200 kΩ, so fragile transducers are not loaded. The differential topology matches the module with devices that cannot share a common reference.

System integration focuses on power and communication. The EtherCAT interface uses 2 x M8 sockets, 4-pin and provides galvanic isolation of 500 V, shielding control hardware from field spikes. An unshielded harness may extend up to 30 m without EMC issues. Logic supply enters on an M8 connector, 4-pin, and exits on an M8 socket, 4-pin; the shared Us rail can carry 4 A to downstream modules. Operating voltage is 24 VDC. Distributed Clocks provide sub-microsecond timing, and TwinSAFE SC allows the node to transmit single-channel safe data across the same network, eliminating separate cabling for safety zones.
