Product Description:
The EP2339-0022 is a compact digital I/O block manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the EP Digital Input Modules series. It functions as a remote terminal that mounts directly on machines or conveyor frames, where it gathers sensor signals and forwards them to a controller over a real-time fieldbus. By combining two M8 bus sockets with eight M12 sensor ports in a sealed housing, the unit simplifies decentralized wiring and reduces cabinet space in industrial automation cells. This layout also places connections close to sensors and switches, which helps shorten cable runs on moving or space-limited equipment.
This block provides 16 individually isolated inputs that are scanned via the EtherCAT protocol, so the controller receives deterministic updates on every network cycle. Field devices are powered through the internal supply rail, which outputs a nominal voltage of 24 V DC and supports current-sourcing sensors while limiting inrush. The enclosure size of 60 × 126 × 26.5 mm allows installation on narrow machine members, and the bus as well as sensor cables can be routed up to 30 m without exceeding the permitted signal integrity range. Each input draws only 6 mA, and the 3 ms input filter suppresses mechanical bounce so that fast logic sequences are not disturbed by contact chatter. This combination is useful where compact field mounting and stable signal acquisition are both required.
The enclosure is protected to IP65/IP66/IP67, allowing direct exposure to dust, oil spray, or wash-down cleaning without an additional enclosure. All eight sensor ports share an output sum current of 4 A, allowing multiple proximity switches or photo eyes to be powered at the same time while staying below the internal fuse limit. Signal propagation remains responsive because activation is recognized after a turn-on time of 60 µs, and deactivation is confirmed within a turn-off time of 300 µs. These response times suit sorting, counting, and positioning tasks where short input delays help the control system react consistently during repeated machine cycles.
