Product Description:
The EP2328-0002 is a field-installable digital I/O module produced by Beckhoff as a member of the EP Digital Input Modules series. Mounted directly on machinery, it collects sensor states and controls actuators through a single EtherCAT connection, reducing cabinet wiring and update delays in automated assembly lines and material-handling systems. By combining sealed construction with integrated power distribution, the unit interfaces discrete 24 V devices to the controller and returns output commands with deterministic timing.
Its compact housing measures 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, so it fits into narrow cable trays and machine frames without additional enclosure space. Communication and supply are routed through two M8 sockets with 4-pin, A-coded, shielded connections, and the unit exchanges process data via the EtherCAT protocol at line speed. Rated for washdown and dusty environments, the module carries an IP65/IP66/IP67 protection class, so it can be mounted directly on moving axes or tooling fixtures. Galvanic separation between logic and field level is secured by a 500 V isolation barrier. Two M12 sockets accommodate the sensor leads, and individual cable runs may reach 30 m without repeaters. The device sources up to 0.5 A for sensor power and permits a combined load of 4 A on its output side.
Each of the four inputs draws only 6 mA and uses a 3.0 ms input filter that meets EN 61131-2 Type 3 criteria. Four high-side outputs are provided, and every channel can switch up to 2 A per channel while the shared rail supplies a stable 24 V DC. The aggregate output current must stay within 4 A to protect board traces, and the internal sensor supply contributes 0.5 A for proximity switches or optical detectors. With a maximum cable length of 30 m, the module maintains signal integrity across distributed installations and allows I/O to be placed where it is needed without additional junction boxes.
