Product Description:
The EP2308-0002 belongs to the EP Digital Input Modules series developed by Beckhoff. This compact EtherCAT I/O block combines four digital inputs and four digital outputs so decentralized sensors and actuators can be wired directly into a field-mounted network segment. Its primary role in industrial automation is to translate 24 V switching signals and load currents into deterministic EtherCAT telegrams, giving controllers real-time access to machine states while eliminating traditional control-cabinet terminal strips.
The module operates from a field supply of 24 V DC and occupies only 30 x 126 x 26.5 mm, which allows installation on robots, gantries, or tooling plates where space is constrained. Environmental sealing reaches IP65/IP66/IP67, so the housing tolerates dust, water jets, and temporary immersion without additional enclosures. Electrical isolation between the internal logic and the network is specified at 500 V, protecting higher-level devices from ground shifts on the machine frame. For noise suppression, each input is processed through a 3.0 ms digital filter, and debounced states are then transferred across the two shielded M8 EtherCAT ports. Typical input response is 50 µs ON and 100 µs OFF, ensuring rapid edge detection while preventing contact chatter from propagating over the bus.
Every output channel can source a maximum of 0.5 A to coils, lamps, or pilot valves, and the four-channel group is limited to a combined maximum of 4 A to keep conductor temperatures within limits. The inputs draw only 6 mA per point, minimizing sensor load so proximity switches or opto-couplers remain within their current budgets. The module uses 4 x M12 sockets for signal lines and the 0.5 A sensor supply, while an internal electronic fuse trips at the 1.5 A short-circuit threshold to protect downstream wiring. The module electronics consume 120 mA from US logic power and 20 mA from UP load power, leaving most of the 24 V rail available for field devices.
