Product Description:
The EP2008-0002 is an EtherCAT-based digital I/O block manufactured by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. It provides eight 24 V DC switching channels that can be mounted directly on the machine frame, allowing control cabinet space to be reduced. By combining a durable polyamide housing with sealed M8 and M12 connectors, the unit supports fast installation of sensors and actuators in harsh industrial environments.
The module communicates through two 4-pin, A-coded, shielded M8 sockets for the bus interface, so EtherCAT telegrams and supply lines share a compact connector arrangement that simplifies trunk wiring. Its internal electronics draw only 120 mA, which minimizes load on the upstream power feed. Each switching channel delivers a nominal 24 V DC level, and the device has 8 discrete outputs that can drive ohmic, inductive, or lamp loads. The output capacity is 0.5 A per channel, and overload or reverse-polarity errors are detected and reported by the controller. The enclosure resists water jets and dust ingress because of its IP65/IP66/IP67 rating. This allows the EP block to be mounted directly on moving tooling or conveyor rails without additional shielding, and its overall dimensions of 30 mm × 126 mm × 26.5 mm help it fit into narrow machine spaces.
Output power is routed through four M12 sockets, each 5-pin and A-coded, and all eight channels together may supply up to 4 A before the thermal stage limits current. Switching remains deterministic because the driver network reaches its command threshold in a 50 µs turn-on time and releases the load within a 100 µs turn-off time, supporting tight cycle control for solenoids and pilot valves. If a short circuit occurs, the high-side driver limits current to 1.5 A, allowing PLC diagnostics to react before wiring damage develops. The PA6 housing resists oils and coolants, while the 120 mA electronics current allows multiple EP blocks to share a single 24 V auxiliary line without overloading it.
