Product Description:
The EP2008-0001 is a decentralized I/O module manufactured by Beckhoff. Housed in an IP-rated enclosure, this compact unit links machine-level sensors and actuators directly to an EtherCAT network without requiring a traditional control cabinet. It converts field-level switching states into real-time telegrams and sends switching commands to connected loads, supporting distributed automation in conveyors, packaging lines, and general machinery.
Operating on a 24 V DC supply, the module communicates via the EtherCAT fieldbus, and the data channel is presented through a 2 x M8, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded bus interface that maintains signal integrity in electrically noisy areas. Eight sourcing channels each deliver up to 0.5 A per channel, while an auxiliary rail provides 0.5 A total for peripheral devices. State transitions are fast, with outputs switching within 50 µs On / 100 µs Off, allowing tight timing in high-speed installations. With only 120 mA of logic current drawn from the network, the unit imposes little load on upstream power supplies. Its operation follows the EtherCAT protocol, so process data are updated synchronously with other terminals on the same network.
For power distribution, the box offers M8 male and female, 4-pin, A-coded power ports, and each channel routes energy to load devices through an M8 × 1, 3-pin, A-coded output connector. Total load must stay below 4 A, and a protected electronic fuse trips when the collective draw or a fault reaches the 1.5 A short-circuit threshold. The molded PA6 polyamide body resists chemicals while keeping weight low, and the overall size is only 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, which simplifies installation on tight frames. The sealed housing and O-ringed connectors meet IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection classes, so the device withstands sprayed water and dust without extra enclosures.
