Product Description:
The EP1957-2222 is a digital input/output module produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for decentralized control applications, the unit aggregates discrete signals from sensors and actuators into an EtherCAT network architecture. Within an automation cell, it converts field-level switching states into bus data and returns control commands to connected loads.
Communication relies on EtherCAT, so the module streams time-critical data directly to the controller with very short cycle times. It is powered from a 24 VDC supply that also feeds the internal sensor voltage rails. The housing carries an IP67 protection rating, allowing installation on the machine frame without an additional enclosure. Electrically, the channel electronics are isolated from the network by up to 500 VDC, which helps prevent ground loops between remote modules. The device accepts signals on eight channels, and this 8-input arrangement supports parallel detection of limit switches, proximity sensors, or pushbuttons. Command signals are returned through four sourcing outputs, with 4 discrete lines that share the same supply and permit direct actuation of contactors or indicator lamps.
Each output channel can switch up to 0.5 A per channel, so small solenoids and pilot valves can be driven without external relays. Sensor power is available through the coded connectors, and reliable signal integrity is maintained along cables up to 100 m in length, which gives layout flexibility on large machines. The I/O and supply lines use rugged M12 sockets that support quick-change wiring in harsh environments. Additional diagnostic values, including low and high switching thresholds and functional safety figures such as PFDavg 8.30 × 10⁻⁵ and PFHd 6.50 × 10⁻⁹, support safety-related evaluation without additional interface boards.
