Product Description:
The EP1957-0022 is an EtherCAT-based digital I/O station manufactured by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for field mounting, the unit gathers discrete sensor states and actuates auxiliary loads directly on the machine. Eight input channels and four output channels are routed through industry-standard M12 sockets, allowing quick pluggable wiring on decentralized panels. By connecting to the EtherCAT network, the module delivers its input data to the controller with a deterministic cycle and accepts output commands in the same telegram, simplifying cabinet layouts in industrial automation.
The electronics operate from a field supply of 24 VDC, and each input circuit is galvanically separated from the bus by an insulation clearance that withstands 500 VDC. During normal scan cycles, the module dissipates only 4.7 W, a figure useful for enclosure heat calculations. The controller views the inputs through an input process image of 7 bytes; this compact mapping keeps bus traffic low while still providing status and diagnostic bits. Signal changes are transferred to EtherCAT within a deterministic window, as the worst-case response time is 4 ms. To energize external sensors, the unit sources up to 250 mA in total from its auxiliary supply rail.
In the output section each channel can safely deliver up to 0.5 A per channel, permitting direct actuation of indicator lamps, relays, or small valves without external drivers. Output states are exchanged with the PLC through a dedicated image that also occupies 7 bytes, so command data align with the input mapping for symmetric handling in the application code. The housing conforms to IP67, enabling installation on moving tooling or conveyors where wash-down or dust exposure is expected. Overall size is limited to 60 (+0.5) × 126 (+0.5) × 26.5 mm, and shielded sensor leads may be extended to 100 m without timing errors when standard cabling practices are observed.
