Product Description:

The EP1819-0022 is a digital input module manufactured by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for field installation, the unit gathers binary sensor states and forwards them to an EtherCAT controller. By converting discrete 24 V signals into network data directly on the machine, the module shortens wiring runs and simplifies distributed I/O architectures common in industrial automation. It provides a sealed, block-style housing appropriate for harsh environments while retaining the fast cycle times associated with EtherCAT.

Sixteen independent channels allow the device to sample and transmit up to 16 digital signals. Each input expects a nominal level of 24 VDC, drawing only 3 mA per channel, which minimizes sensor loading. A built-in filter of 10 µs suppresses contact bounce so that short signal changes are still captured. Network traffic passes through two EtherCAT ports that use 2 x M8 A-coded sockets, enabling line or ring topologies without an external switch. The module has a depth of 26.5 mm and a height of 126 mm, and it dissipates heat passively while the 130 mA logic load is supplied through the US rail at 24 VDC.

Process wiring enters through 8 x M12 A-coded sockets that provide galvanic separation between sensors and bus electronics. The integrated power distribution delivers 24 VDC from the US supply rail to connected sensors; the shared supply can source up to 0.5 A in total, while the overall US current flowing through the module must remain below 4 A. When longer distances are required, signal integrity is maintained with cable runs up to 30 m between the module and field devices. A housing width of 60 mm leaves space for side-by-side mounting on machines or material-handling gantries without exceeding enclosure clearances.
