Product Description:
The EP1809-0022 is a decentralized digital input module manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series. Intended for mounting directly on machinery, the device collects binary sensor signals and transmits them over an EtherCAT network, allowing controllers to monitor process states without running large multi-core cables back to a cabinet. By combining power distribution and field-level data acquisition in a single molded housing, it supports compact, scalable machine designs and simplifies installation in automated production lines.
It provides 16 isolated channels that accept PNP or NPN signals referenced to the system ground. Each channel is designed for a nominal level of 24 VDC, and the input stage draws only 3 mA, limiting the load placed on proximity switches or photo-eyes. A hardware debounce of 3 ms is integrated so that mechanical contacts do not generate multiple transitions in the controller. Cable runs between sensors and the housing can reach 30 m without degrading signal integrity. Field data are forwarded in real time over EtherCAT using dual, daisy-chainable 2 x M8 shielded sockets on the top edge. Eight M12, 5-pin A-coded sockets accommodate the sensor leads, while an additional M8, 4-pin A-coded plug delivers the module's supply input.
Inside the enclosure measuring 60 × 126 × 26.5 mm, internal power is split into two domains: Up for the sensor power rail and Us for the logic electronics. The Up circuit is rated at 24 VDC and can source up to 0.5 A to feed two-wire sensors through the M12 sockets. The Us rail operates from a nominal 24 VDC supply and draws only 130 mA during cyclic operation, while a fused distribution path allows a collective load of up to 4 A for the entire module. Both voltage rails are brought in through the dedicated 4-pin supply connector, maintaining separation between field and control currents without additional terminals.
