Product Description:
The EP1111-0000 is a digital input module manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the EP Digital Input Modules series. It serves as a field-level collection point for up to eight discrete sensors, forwarding each signal to a central PLC over the real-time network so that pneumatic valves, proximity switches, or light curtains can be processed without cabinet-mounted terminals. By situating the device directly on machinery, wiring lengths are shortened and installation is simplified, which makes the module suitable for distributed architectures in material-handling and assembly automation.
The module connects to the network through a 2 × M8 socket arrangement that is 4-pin, A-coded, and shielded; this format carries both data traffic and sensor power in a daisy-chain topology. Communication conforms to EtherCAT, and the internal controller sustains a bandwidth of 100 Mbit/s, providing deterministic transport of input states. For supply, the electronics expect 24 V DC with a tolerance window of −15% to +20%. Under nominal conditions, the internal logic draws only 120 mA, while connected sensors may consume up to 4 A in total, a current that is forwarded through the Us conductor. Installation addresses are assigned with three rotary switches that implement a decimal system and offer a range from 0 to 999, eliminating the need for software tools for node identification.
The encapsulated housing is molded from PA6 polyamide and measures 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, enabling placement in narrow cable trays. The housing is sealed to IP65, IP66, and IP67, so it permits washdown cleaning and protects against dust ingress. Functional reliability is maintained between -25 to +60 °C, while non-operating storage can occur down to -40 °C and up to +85 °C. On the EtherCAT trunk, the module may be located as far as 100 m from the previous station, giving flexibility when spacing I/O islands within a cell.
