The EP1018-0001 is a digital input module from Beckhoff that belongs to the EP Digital Input Modules series. It gathers discrete sensor signals and forwards them to an EtherCAT fieldbus, allowing PLCs to read on-machine switches or proximity sensors over a single network cable. With its compact body and M8 connectors, the module is intended for decentralized mounting on machinery where cabinet space is limited and IP-rated housings are required.

The module provides 8 input channels that comply with Type 3 characteristics in accordance with EN 61131-2, so each channel accepts the 24 V signal range common to industrial sensors. Each input draws only 3 mA, reducing load on the sensor supply while still guaranteeing a valid logic state. A built-in filter of 10 µs suppresses contact bounce and short transients before the value reaches the controller. Wiring can extend up to 30 m per input when shielded cable is used, and all field devices connect through eight M8, three-pin, A-coded sockets. For power distribution, the module receives 24 V on separate Up and Us pins. The sensor supply can deliver up to 0.5 A to connected devices, while the aggregate logic consumption is limited to 4 A. All electronics are enclosed in a die-cast housing that measures 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, enabling installation directly on moving tooling or narrow machine frames. The enclosure carries a unified protection rating of IP65/IP66/IP67, permitting high-pressure washdown, dust exposure, and temporary immersion without auxiliary covers. This makes the unit suitable for food, packaging, and outdoor equipment that must keep field wiring close to sensors.
