The EP1008-0022 is a digital input module manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for EtherCAT decentralized I/O architectures, the unit relays status information from field sensors back to the controller across the real-time network. It accepts 24 V sensor signals and packages them in the protocol while housing all electronics in a molded polyamide body. By moving discrete input acquisition to the machine frame, the device reduces cabinet wiring and simplifies modular machine construction.
Physically, the module measures 60 x 126 x 26.5 mm, allowing direct machine mounting without requiring panel depth. Fieldbus and supply lines are daisy-chained through 2 x 4-pin M8 sockets that are compatible with EtherCAT. A total of 8 channels accept sourcing or sinking devices that meet the Type 3 definition. Each input draws 3 mA and passes through a 3.0 ms filter that removes contact bounce. Isolation withstands 500 V between field and logic, protecting the controller from transients. The housing is made of PA6 polyamide, and the module can be installed horizontally or vertically.
Power handling is separated into UP for the internal electronics and US for the sensor supply. Both rails operate at 24 VDC, enabling the module to share a common source with other 24-volt devices in the cell. The sensor feed can deliver up to 0.5 A, while the aggregate load on the input side must stay below 4 A to avoid connector overheating. Signal leads between sensors and the module may extend to 30 m without violating timing or voltage limits, which facilitates installation on distributed tooling. Because GND and GNDP are isolated, return currents from solenoids or inductive switches are diverted away from the logic reference, improving noise immunity and preventing unintended resets.
