Product Description:
The EP1008-0002 is a compact digital input block manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the EP Digital Input Modules series. It brings field-level switches, proximity sensors, and push buttons onto an EtherCAT network, giving the controller direct status updates without intermediary terminal blocks. The module is intended for distributed machine sections where cabinet space is limited, so it mounts directly on the machine frame. Eight channels built to EN 61131-2 Type 3 requirements allow dependable detection of common industrial sensor outputs and support consistent signal acquisition in decentralized layouts.
Power distribution inside the device is separated into Up and Us domains, and each operates at 24 VDC, with one section reserved for internal electronics and the other intended for connected field devices. The unit provides 8 inputs, and each channel draws only 3 mA, which helps limit loading on attached sensors. A built-in debounce time of 3.0 ms is applied before the input state is transferred, reducing brief false transitions from contact bounce or electrical noise. Sensor leads can extend to 30 m and connect through four A-coded, five-pin M12 sockets, with two channels assigned to each connector. This layout helps keep wiring compact on machine-mounted installations and keeps signal entry points close to the sensing devices.
EtherCAT passes through two A-coded, four-pin M8 sockets and is galvanically isolated from the I/O side by 500 V, which helps protect the network interface from field-side electrical differences. The auxiliary sensor circuit can supply up to 0.5 A, and the total Us current must remain below 4 A during operation. The housing measures 30 mm in width, 26.5 mm in depth, and 126 mm in height, allowing the block to sit beside other IP67 modules on a machine or cable tray. The over-molded housing and retained connectors support direct installation in exposed machine areas where short local sensor runs are preferred over cabinet-based I/O.
