Product Description:
The EP1008-0001 is a decentralized digital input module produced by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. The unit functions as an EtherCAT I/O node that acquires discrete sensor signals on the machine frame and transmits them to the controller in real time. By enclosing the electronics in an IP-rated housing, the module can be mounted directly on conveyors, packaging stations, or gantries without a protective cabinet, which shortens wire runs and simplifies industrial automation layouts.
The module operates from a nominal supply of 24 VDC, distributing that voltage to eight input channels arranged on the front panel. These channels correspond to 8 three-pin M8 sockets, enabling rapid connection with standard molded cables. Each channel draws only 3 mA, reducing load on the upstream power supply while still meeting IEC 61131-2 Type 3 switching levels. A built-in debounce stage with a 3.0 ms input filter suppresses mechanical contact chatter and short transients before the state is forwarded to EtherCAT. The housing carries a IP65/IP66/IP67 ingress rating, which permits direct exposure to dust jets and low-pressure water spray during washdown or maintenance.
Field wiring can extend up to 30 m between the module and individual sensors, providing flexibility along long machines. The integrated sensor feed supplies up to 0.5 A, so multiple proximity switches or photo-eyes can be powered without an external distribution block, while the total back-plane current remains limited to 4 A for coordinated fuse sizing in the control panel. Network continuity is maintained through the 2 x M8 socket, 4-pin, A-coded EtherCAT ports, which daisy-chain power and communication to the next device. Mechanical dimensions are 30 mm wide, 26.5 mm deep, and 126 mm high for slim mounting on cable trays or brackets.
