Product Description:
The ELM3602-0000 is an analog input module manufactured by Beckhoff for the ELM EtherCAT Terminals series. The unit attaches directly to the system’s E-bus and converts analog voltages into digital process data for servo positioning, vibration analysis, and other high-speed automation tasks. With two single-ended measurement paths sharing a delta-sigma front end, the terminal offers deterministic timing that can be synchronized with neighboring drives and motion controllers inside an EtherCAT network.
The module uses a 24-bit converter architecture that pushes quantization noise below the application threshold for most dynamic tests. Each channel feeds the converter at an internal throughput of 8 Msps, and the resulting bitstream is filtered by a sinc3 averager whose digital low-pass knee is 13.6 kHz. For events above that bandwidth, a discrete analog filter limits the input spectrum to 30 kHz, preventing aliasing components before sampling. The front end presents an impedance of 2 MΩ || 1 nF, so voltage sources such as piezo sensors or buffered outputs can be connected without noticeable loading while still controlling capacitive coupling at higher frequencies.
On the system side, signal integrity is safeguarded by 707 V DC of E-bus isolation between the terminal logic and the higher-level supply. Operation draws only 460 mA from the E-bus, and the remainder of the 3 W thermal budget is dissipated through the housing surface to keep module temperatures predictable. The terminal provides 2 single-ended channels wired through spring-loaded push-in connectors that accept standard 2-wire sensor leads. Because there is no channel-to-channel isolation, common-mode capacitance is 10 nF, and application firmware can stream data at a selectable 50 ksps per channel for deterministic acquisition.
