The EK9300-1005 is an EtherCAT coupler produced by Beckhoff within the EK EtherCAT Couplers series. It links a block of EtherCAT I/O terminals to an upper-level PROFINET network so that digital and analog field signals can be integrated into a PLC without an additional gateway. By combining a local terminal backplane with a PROFINET front end, the unit reduces node counts in distributed control panels and supports compact machine layouts. This arrangement lets a controller exchange process data with Beckhoff terminals through one compact interface. Because the coupler sits between the controller network and the terminal stack, it helps centralize signal exchange at one interface point.

The communication side uses a bus interface with 2 x RJ45 connectors for a controller running PROFINET. Internally, 2 x Ethernet 100 Mbit/s, 1 x USB Device service ports are also available for setup and diagnostic access. The EtherCAT terminal stack attaches through the local backplane, and up to 1440 bytes of process data can move between the field level and the controller during each cycle. Even at full I/O use, the module dissipates only 3 W, which helps limit heat inside the control cabinet. Its width of 64 mm, height of 100 mm, and length of 73 mm allow placement beside standard DIN-rail terminals without taking excessive space. Protection is IP20, so the coupler is intended for installation inside an enclosed panel. The service connections also provide direct access to the unit without changing the field wiring arrangement.

Field power is supplied with 24 VDC logic for the internal electronics, while separate 24 VDC, 10 A power contacts distribute current to downstream terminals. Individual slices receive sensor power through an I/O terminal feed rated at 2 A, which keeps higher current loads off the logic supply path. A maximum segment cable length of 100 m between PROFINET nodes allows the coupler to be mounted near the machine while the controller remains farther away. The E-bus backplane serves as the sole I/O connection path for compatible Beckhoff terminals, so expansion stays on the local terminal row instead of requiring a separate fieldbus adapter. Separating logic supply from terminal power also helps organize control wiring more clearly inside the panel.
