The EK9300 is an EtherCAT bus coupler manufactured by Beckhoff within the EK EtherCAT Couplers series. Its role in industrial automation is to link a block of EtherCAT terminals to a PROFINET controller, translating local I/O data into the fieldbus format expected by higher-level control systems. By consolidating wiring at a single node, the device simplifies cabinet layouts and shortens setup time.

The coupler has a switched 2 x RJ45 (Switched) bus interface, and the ports support 2 x Ethernet 100 Mbit/s communication so additional stations can be daisy-chained without an external switch. Communication with the controller follows the PROFINET protocol, and up to 1440 bytes of cyclic process data can be exchanged in each cycle. Internal electronics draw from a dedicated 24 VDC logic supply, and the control cabinet must furnish 2.0 A at this voltage to satisfy the required supply output. Separate power contacts transfer 24 VDC at 10 A to downstream terminals, and the integrated I/O segment current is limited to 2 A so field devices are protected from overcurrent events. Because the coupler dissipates only a small amount of heat, it can be used in densely packed assemblies. Its compact width also helps it fit beside higher-power drives in crowded cabinets.

Housed in a 64 mm-wide, 73 mm-long enclosure that stands 100 mm tall, the EK9300 occupies little cabinet space. The electronics dissipate only 3 W at maximum load, which eases thermal management. A front-panel 1 x USB Device port allows service access and parameter backup. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, making the unit touch-safe while requiring installation in a clean, dry environment. Threaded strain-relief points molded into the housing support fieldbus and USB cables, helping prevent vibration-induced disconnects on mobile machinery.
