EK1501-0100 is an EtherCAT coupler and media converter from Beckhoff. The unit features an ID switch. It converts input multi-mode fiber to copper-based RJ-45 output. The device acts as a link between EtherCAT terminals and EtherCAT protocol operating at the fieldbus. Each EtherCAT station has a coupler and a varying number of EtherCAT terminals. Special features of the EK1501-0100 device include media converter from fiber to copper, three ID switches and a maximum of 65,535 EtherCAT terminals. The fiber side of the device supports 2 km transmission distance and the copper side supports 100 meters transmission distance. Specifications for the fiber cable are 50/125 micrometers with SC connector. The number of peripherals can go up to 5.2 GB of addressable input/output points. The maximum number of configurable IDs is 4096.

Data packets passing through the EK1501-0100 device experience a delay of approximately 1 microsecond and the supported data rate is 100 Mbps. The coupler requires 24 Volts DC power. Current draw from the power supply is 130 milliamps. Power contacts on the unit support 24 Volts DC and maximum 10 Amps.
