The Beckhoff EK1501-0100 is part of the EK EtherCAT Couplers series and supports up to 65535 EtherCAT terminals with 4.2 GB of addressable I/O points. Product Description:
The EK1501-0100 is a fiber-optic EtherCAT coupler produced by Beckhoff within the EK EtherCAT Couplers series. The device links an optical EtherCAT trunk to a downstream copper segment, allowing control systems to span long machine sections without disrupting communication timing. It also forwards the 24 V supply through integrated power contacts, allowing distributed digital or analog terminals to draw field power locally. In industrial automation lines, the coupler is installed at the head of a station to establish deterministic communication and distribute power through a single module.
Incoming frames travel through a 50/125 µm multimode fiber connected to an SC duplex connector, and the coupler retransmits them electrically through the RJ45 OUT port. The optical transceiver operates at 1310 nm and sustains the fieldbus at 100 Mbit/s in full-duplex mode. Signal integrity is maintained at optical input levels as low as -31 dBm. Hot Connect addressing supports 4,096 identification numbers, allowing stations to be added or removed within compatible machine configurations. The network can accommodate up to 65,535 EtherCAT terminals and map 4.2 GB of process data to the controller without requiring additional gateways.
A 24 VDC supply powers the coupler logic and connected I/O terminals through the power contacts. These contacts are rated for 10 A, allowing high-density output terminals to draw field current without separate power feeders. The control and field circuits are galvanically isolated by a barrier tested at 500 V, reducing the risk of ground loops between optical and copper network segments. Standard 24 VDC control wiring can therefore serve the logic rail and terminal chain through the module’s integrated connections. The housing has an IP20 rating, providing protection against accidental finger contact with hazardous internal parts. Because the enclosure is not protected against water, the coupler is intended for installation inside closed control cabinets or comparable switchgear.
