Product Description:
The EJ9400 is an I/O power expansion module produced by Beckhoff for the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. It slots beside other plug-in cards on a machine-mounted carrier board and supplies power to the local EtherCAT E-Bus, allowing downstream electronics to remain energized without additional external wiring. The module expands the available power budget for additional digital or analog slices while preserving the compact form factor required in modular industrial automation assemblies. Its plug-in design also reduces the amount of point-to-point power wiring required across a densely populated control node.
The card stabilizes the internal bus at 3.3 V and can supply up to 2.5 A, helping offset voltage drops when multiple high-draw channels are present. Because the auxiliary supply is generated in a SELV/PELV circuit, the additional energy maintains the same touch-safe classification as the primary coupler feed. The EJ9400 is installed after the coupler, allowing it to reinforce the power supply for every module that follows it on the backplane. It serves as an additional E-Bus supply and does not modify process data exchanged by the connected I/O modules. The EtherCAT master can still recognize the module through standard device identification, even though its primary function is local power expansion.
The E-Bus reference is tied to a common ground, so every connected slice shares a unified return path that helps minimize differential noise between neighboring channels. When an application uses two or more network segments with local power separation, multiple EJ9400 units can be cascaded to keep each segment within its rated current. A carrier board may use an optional reset contact to discharge the energy store during maintenance and shorten restart times after a fault has been cleared. The module belongs to the EJ EtherCAT Plugins portfolio and supports densely populated control assemblies that require additional E-Bus capacity. Its position on the carrier board allows power to be added near the modules that need it instead of routing a separate supply to each downstream card.
