The EJ7342-0000 is an EtherCAT plug-in module produced by Beckhoff and supplied within the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. It is delivered as a board-level component that inserts into a carrier so field I/O can be centralized on standardized contacts rather than point-to-point wiring. In automated machines, this layout shortens setup time, keeps cabinet depth shallow, and supports quick module replacement when service is required. Because the electrical interface is handled through the carrier, wiring stays concentrated at the baseboard instead of being spread across separate terminal points.
Physically, the module occupies a double module slot and presents only 24 mm of front width on the control board. It has a housing depth of 55 mm and an outer profile height of 66 mm, which helps it fit shallow enclosures. These dimensions set the required board clearance and leave room for neighboring components, airflow paths, and cover spacing. The narrow front width is also useful where several modules must be arranged close together without increasing overall board width. The regular EJ pitch also lets the stated width align with the solder pin grid for consistent placement on the carrier board.
Correct positioning is enforced by 2 coding pins that interlock with keyed bushings on the carrier and help prevent incorrect insertion or rotation. The internal E-bus feed can exit on the left or right side, which gives more freedom when routing traces around processors, connectors, or other board features. The module is intended for a horizontal orientation, and it is pressed into the footprint on the Signal Distribution Board instead of using DIN-rail hardware. Using keyed insertion features also reduces the chance of a mismatched module being installed in the wrong position during assembly. That board-mounted arrangement keeps the assembly compact and leaves more usable space for adjacent electronics.
