Product Description:
The EJ7047-0000 plug-in module is a stepper motor controller manufactured by Beckhoff within the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Designed for installation on a shared backplane, this unit provides closed-loop control of a 2-phase stepper motor directly through the EtherCAT fieldbus. In an automation cell, it converts cyclic setpoint data from the PLC into phase currents and returns position feedback, allowing coordinated motion without separate wiring harnesses. Its compact form is intended for machine builders who want I/O and motion functions in a single pluggable card.
Governing electronics are supplied with 24 V DC, making power distribution consistent with standard auxiliary rails. The driver can source up to 5.0 A maximum per motor phase, which is adequate for axes in feeders or indexing tables. Motion smoothness comes from 64-fold microstepping, which subdivides the step angle and minimizes speed ripple. Encoder pulses are accepted at rates up to 400,000 increments/s, so high-line-count feedback devices remain accurate even at high speeds. Wiring is simplified by the direct motor connection and feedback interface; windings, limit switches, encoder channels, and a brake line plug into the card. The module also provides two limit inputs, a brake output, and support for EtherCAT Distributed Clocks for synchronized triggering across multiple axes.
Only one motion channel is integrated, which suits machines that dedicate one axis to each card. The board occupies 24 mm of width and measures 66 mm in height with a 55 mm depth, enabling dense stacking inside control cabinets. An IP20 protection rating means the electronics must be mounted in a closed panel and are protected against finger contact. Two end-position inputs and a separate encoder input monitor travel limits, while one stepper output and one brake output support a 2-phase uni- or bipolar stepper motor.
