The EJ6910-0000 is a safety logic plug-in manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Installed beside standard EtherCAT terminals, the module acts as a local safety controller that evaluates input signals and commands safe outputs for drives, cylinders, or contactors in industrial automation cells where predictable shutdown behavior is required. Its role is to embed certified safety functions directly on an EJ distribution board, reducing cabinet space while maintaining deterministic response inside the machine network. The backplane connection also removes the need for separate fieldbus cabling between the logic layer and neighboring plug-ins.
During operation, the plug-in is powered from a system supply of 24 VDC, while an upper limit of 36 VDC protects the circuitry against accidental overvoltage. A row of 4 diagnostic LEDs on the front edge indicates run, error, and communication status so faults can be identified without external tools. The housing measures 12 x 66 x 55 mm, allowing dense stacking on the carrier card in compact control cabinets. Safety communication with the main controller is handled through FSoE, which carries safety-relevant data in a cyclic channel secured by cross-checking mechanisms. This arrangement keeps the safety data path inside the same real-time EtherCAT structure used by the surrounding terminal system.
Internally, the unit performs Boolean and analog safety evaluations, allowing limit checks and arithmetic functions to be combined within a single safety task. The internal temperature limit is 110 °C, which suits high-density panel layouts where components are mounted close together. When installed on an EJ distribution board, the module supports Safety Category 4 with a Performance Level of PL e, and its certified Safety Integrity Level is SIL 3. If a fault is detected, it forces all assigned actuators into a safe state with the outputs switched off and wattless. This behavior removes active energy from connected devices when the safety application detects an invalid condition.
