The EJ6224-0090 is an IO-Link master plugin manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Intended for slot-based assembly on a compact carrier board, the module acts as a bridge between EtherCAT fieldbus segments and up to four IO-Link devices. By converting standard EtherCAT process data into the point-to-point IO-Link protocol, it allows sensors, actuators, or smart terminals to exchange parameter and runtime data with a controller. This capability simplifies distributed I/O wiring and gives machine builders a way to integrate intelligent peripherals without external gateways.
Mechanical and electrical parameters define how the plugin is mounted and powered. A board outline of 12 mm in width, 66 mm in height, and 55 mm in depth keeps the module within the standard EJ grid so neighboring channels remain accessible. The electronics draw their logic supply from a separate 24 V DC rail and can source up to 500 mA for connected devices. Terminations follow a 3-wire connection method that carries sensor power, common, and signal, while the housing is molded from polycarbonate to insulate live conductors. Each of these characteristics affects carrier-board layout, fuse sizing, and thermal dispersion inside a control cabinet.
The communication layer is formed by four independent IO-Link master channels, identified as 4 interfaces that comply with IO-Link V1.1. For installations on moving machine sections a maximum unshielded sensor lead of 20 m is permissible before signal quality falls below the protocol margin. Environmental constraints correspond to a panel-mount protection level of IP20, so the board must remain in an enclosure yet can operate at altitudes up to 2,000 m above sea level. Coding pins placed at positions 2 and 5 direct the module’s keyed insertion and prevent accidental reversal during field replacement.
