Product Description:
The EJ5101 model is part of the EJ Plugins series. It is an EtherCAT plugins module manufactured by Beckhoff. The module has a wide range of industrial automation applications.
The EJ5101 EtherCAT plugin can achieve extremely fine resolution of 1/256 bit micro increments which allows precise position tracking between two encoder pulses. It supports both differential (RS422) and single ended (TTL) encoder types which makes it flexible for different encoder signals. It includes only one encoder input channel which means it can handle a single encoder at a time. The basic power usage of the module is very low (only 20mA) without considering the load from connected devices. The module’s electronics are powered by 24V DC supplied through a standard system distribution setup. It is able to handle very high speed encoders up to 4 million counts per second using 4x quadrature decoding. It consumes about 130 milli amperes of current from the EtherCAT E-bus. It is also featured with extra digital inputs such as status input 5 V DC and gate/latch input 24 V DC for functions like status signaling or triggering latch operations.
The EJ5101 EtherCAT plugin has an electrical isolation of 500 Volts between field signals and the EtherCAT bus which protects the network from voltage spikes. The inclusion of a quadrature decoder of 4 fold evaluation helps read both edges of both encoder signals (A and B). It can be configured to use either a 16-bit or 32-bit counter depending on application needs. The module supports precise EtherCAT Distributed Clocks synchronization which enables very accurate time aligned data acquisition across devices. It is capable of providing 5V DC up to 0.5A to power connected encoders directly from the module itself.
