Product Description:
The EJ3214-0000 temperature input module is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. It clips onto a signal distribution board so that power, bus signals, and field wiring are connected in a single action. Within an automation cell, the unit converts resistance-based temperature signals and streams the data to the EtherCAT network, allowing the main controller to execute heat-treat, HVAC, or safety-monitoring logic without separate analog wiring.
The module provides 4 independent channels, enabling one device to read several sensing points and conserve backplane slots. Each channel is designed for RTD sensors, so it supports platinum or nickel elements whose resistance varies predictably with temperature. A digital conversion step size of 0.1 °C/digit gives fine thermal resolution, which is useful when small setpoint deviations trigger alarms or control actions. Field wiring can use the 2-wire or 3-wire method, which allows lead-resistance compensation where needed without adding a fourth conductor. For cabinet installations, the housing carries an IP20 rating, meaning it is touch-safe but intended for protected electrical enclosures rather than exposed environments.
The housing remains compact at just 12 mm in width, 66 mm in height, and 55 mm in depth, so the plugin occupies minimal area on densely populated distribution boards. Operation is permitted up to 2,000 m altitude, allowing the module to function in most plant sites without derating. The polycarbonate body resists ordinary panel vibration, and two coding pins at positions 1 and 6 help prevent incorrect insertion next to other EJ modules. Because the module does not include Distributed Clocks, time stamping relies on the master cycle, which is acceptable for temperature processes where millisecond accuracy is not required. Mounting is completed by pressing the board edge into the predefined socket, which supports stable signal transfer without additional fastening hardware.
