Product Description:
The EJ3108 is an analog input plug-in module produced by Beckhoff as part of the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. By snapping into a carrier board alongside other EJ I/O, the unit brings field-level measurement signals onto the EtherCAT real-time network without separate wiring. In typical machine automation, it samples differential or single-ended voltages and forwards digitized data to the controller through the integrated E-bus backplane. This layout keeps signal handling close to the I/O assembly and supports compact control hardware.
Its physical footprint is limited to 12 mm in width, 55 mm in depth, and 66 mm in height, so multiple channels fit on the carrier without using excessive cabinet space. The housing is molded from polycarbonate and matches the series' compact plug-in form factor while providing basic insulation. Signal acquisition is handled by 6 differential + 2 single-ended voltage inputs converted at 16 bit resolution, which helps retain amplitude detail for control algorithms. A deterministic scan is possible because the EtherCAT device supports a minimum cycle time of 1 ms and is powered exclusively from the E-bus, eliminating separate supply wiring. A coding pin set to positions 1 and 5 prevents accidental interchange with neighboring modules, and reliable operation is permitted up to an altitude of 2000 m.
The process data image occupies 16 bytes, which lets the PLC read all channel values and status bits in a single bus cycle. Cable runs between the carrier board and field sensors can extend up to 30 m, staying within the transmission limits for low-level voltages while keeping the system topology flexible. Electrical insulation withstands common-mode shifts of ±8 V max, and the module follows the series' IP20 protection rating for use in closed control cabinets. These operating characteristics suit measurement tasks that need compact installation and direct EtherCAT integration.
