Product Description:
The EJ2918 is a plug-in safety output module produced by Beckhoff for the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. As a Type B module, it is inserted onto a carrier PCB to expand EtherCAT I/O stations with safe digital output functionality. The device supplies controlled power to actuators and can disconnect or enable machine elements within functional safety circuits used in industrial automation. Its plug-in format supports compact I/O assemblies in which multiple modules share a common carrier board and EtherCAT connection.
The module supplies an actuator voltage of 24 VDC through eight fail-safe outputs, allowing it to operate common industrial contactors, brakes, and similar loads. Each channel is monitored individually by the internal logic so the affected output can enter a de-energized state when a fault is detected. The unit has a Safety Category 4 rating and supports Performance Level PL e under EN ISO 13849-1, making it suitable for safety functions that require high stop reliability. A hardware fault tolerance of 1 permits the safety function to remain effective after a single internal fault when the required diagnostic conditions are satisfied. Continuous monitoring and cyclic self-tests verify output channel integrity and help the module respond appropriately to detected failures.
Overall diagnostic coverage reaches 98.1%, and four front-edge LEDs provide visible indications of operating and fault states. The housing measures 12 mm wide, 55 mm deep, and 152 mm high, allowing the module to fit densely on its carrier board without adding excessive cabinet depth. Built-in test pulses periodically check the output drivers and support the module’s diagnostic functions. The narrow housing also leaves space around adjacent components, helping air move across the board surface in tightly arranged enclosures. Status indications and internal diagnostics allow the control system to recognize faults while the output circuitry maintains the required safe response.
