EJ2918 is an EtherCAT plug-in module with 8 digital outputs. The module supports the TwinSAFE protocol and delivers 24 Volts DC output to actuators in the field. The outputs support fail-safe and are controlled through FSoE by logic components supporting TwinSAFE. Safety parameters on the module can be matched to application requirements. Safety parameters are not stored on the module. Rather these are sent to the module via TwinSAFE after starting of the safety application. In the default configuration the module works as an output module. The EJ2918 can be used as a safety controller that prepares output signals. In addition, it is possible to implement a full safety application through the module. When used as a controller, the EJ2918 supports all functions available on the EL6901, with the only difference being that safe connections are limited to 128.

Operators not requiring TwinSAFE features can use the EJ2918-2200 module. Connection technology on the EJ9218 is distribution board. The maximum output current is limited to 0.5 Amps. The module supports Safety over EtherCAT and TwinSAFE protocols. The fault response time is parameterizable and is less than or equal to the watchdog time. Current draw of the system E-bus is 310 milliamps. The module complies with safety standards including EN ISO 13849-1:2015 and EN 61508:2010. Weight of this module is approximately 62 grams and its dimensions are 12 x 152 x 55 millimeters. Enclosure of the device is made of polycarbonate and complies with IP20 ingress protection rating. The module is part of Beckhoff’s automation solutions. It is specialized equipment that requires professional handling by qualified and trained technical staff for safe, proper and reliable operation.
