Product Description:
The EJ2914 is a four-channel digital output plug-in produced by Beckhoff for the EJ EtherCAT plug-in series. Designed to be soldered directly onto application-specific backplanes, the module provides EtherCAT I/O functionality within a compact 24 mm × 55 mm × 66 mm enclosure. It switches 24 V actuators inside control cabinets and transfers output data through the integrated E-bus, eliminating the need for ribbon cables. Within an automation cell, the module can operate solenoid valves, indicator lamps, or small relays while preserving the high node density associated with Beckhoff’s board-level I/O design. Direct backplane installation also reduces the number of separate connections required between the controller and the attached field devices.
Each channel is supplied from a common 24 VDC actuator supply and can source up to 0.5 A, allowing the module to support modest inductive or resistive loads without auxiliary relays. The field-power segment draws 260 mA from the E-bus, while the internal electronics consume only 22 mA. These current requirements should be included when calculating the power available to adjacent plug-ins on the same backplane. Protection against dust and accidental contact is provided by the IP20 enclosure rating, making the unit suitable for installation inside a closed control cabinet. Its compact enclosure also allows dense and repeatable arrangements on application-specific multilayer carrier boards.
Functional reliability is supported by diagnostic coverage of 98.1%, which assists with the detection of short circuits and supply faults. All four outputs may operate simultaneously because the module has a simultaneity factor of 100%. The controller receives exactly 4 discrete output bits mapped into the EtherCAT process image, providing one control bit for each output channel. This direct mapping simplifies communication between the controller program and the connected actuators. With a mass of only 47 g, the unit places little mechanical load on the backplane and its solder joints. The plug-in format is also compatible with automated assembly methods used to install EJ modules on customized control boards.
