The EJ2889-0000 is a digital output module manufactured by Beckhoff and belongs to the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. It is supplied in the form of an EtherCAT I/O plug-in component that is meant to be soldered or socketed onto a customer-specific signal distribution board. By relocating the field wiring to the backplane, the unit streamlines cabinet layouts and shortens installation time while still allowing deterministic EtherCAT communication for motion, packaging, and general machine control tasks.
In operation the module distributes a rated load of 24 V DC to each channel, matching the supply level used by most industrial actuators. Every output can source up to 0.5 A per channel, which is adequate for driving light indicators, pneumatic valves, or small relays without additional amplifiers. A total of 16 outputs are provided and they switch the negative side of the load, a topology identified as Ground Switching. Protection against accidental contact is defined by the enclosure’s IP20 rating, so the module is intended for installation inside closed control cabinets. Logic and load lines are brought out on a dual-row connector; the specified interface is a 2 x 20-Pin Socket Strip, allowing the module to be inserted and removed without tools.
The compact mechanics further support high channel density. The front width is only 12 mm, overall height reaches 66 mm, and the depth including the connector is 55 mm; these dimensions let multiple plugins sit side by side on the same board. A polycarbonate housing keeps weight low while withstanding typical panel temperatures, and coding pins in positions 1 and 4 prevent accidental misplacement during assembly. The module can be used at altitudes up to 2000 m without derating, so standard performance is maintained in most factory environments.
