Product Description:
The EJ1914 is a safety-rated digital I/O module produced by Beckhoff for the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Supplied as a compact plug-in component, it combines four single-ended inputs with four time-deterministic clock outputs, allowing machine builders to embed EtherCAT interfaces directly onto custom boards instead of using DIN-rail terminals. Within an automation cell, the plug-in module forwards input states to the EtherCAT master and returns synchronized output pulses for sensor excitation or timestamp generation, reducing wiring while maintaining the distributed architecture used by Beckhoff control platforms.
The module operates from a control supply of 24 VDC, matching the common field voltage used for proximity switches and optocouplers. Each input complies with the EN 61131-2 Type 3 standard, so sensors with either PNP or NPN outputs can be connected without additional adaptation. For event timing, the independent clock channels source up to 11 mA each, providing sufficient current for LED light gates or encoder reference lines. The logic maintains accurate signal edges across the network to support synchronized events. Internal monitoring covers every signal path and provides diagnostic coverage of 98.3%. Dual processing paths give the module a hardware fault tolerance of 1 while preserving its compact plug-in format.
The architecture supports a performance level of PL e, making the module suitable for safety-related control functions that require a high level of risk reduction. Its probability of dangerous failure per hour is limited to 3.21 × 10-9. The mean time to dangerous failure is 2,406 years, while the average probability of failure on demand is 5.1 × 10-5. These calculated values describe the module’s reliability when it is installed and operated under the required conditions. The housing has a width of 24 mm, a depth of 55 mm, and a height of 66 mm. Its narrow enclosure permits close spacing on plug-in backplanes without obstructing cooling paths or access to the locking pins.
