Product Description:
The EJ1809 is a digital input plug-in produced by Beckhoff for the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Intended for machine builders who use board-level I/O, the device plugs into a carrier backplane and routes eight field signals directly into the EtherCAT network without external terminal blocks. By integrating electronics and backplane contacts inside a slim housing, the module helps reduce cabinet depth, shorten assembly time, and sustain deterministic cycle times in compact industrial automation equipment.
The plug-in occupies only 12 mm of board width, has a height of 66 mm, and extends 55 mm from the mounting plane, enabling dense rows that still leave room for airflow and cable ducts. This compact depth lets designers mount the carrier immediately behind machine doors where space is limited. Power, EtherCAT communication, and input channels pass through rear pin contacts, eliminating front-side bus jumpers and maintaining controlled impedance across the internal traces. Once seated on the signal distribution board, the module is retained by soldered guide pins. Field connectors can be preassembled while the internal connections remain protected from vibration, shock, and handling during maintenance.
A coding key with 2 pins prevents accidental insertion into positions intended for output or power modules, and the enclosure’s yellow color coding provides immediate visual confirmation of the input function during maintenance. The keyed profile also guides automated insertion tools, supporting high-volume assembly lines. Visual differentiation through color coding accelerates inspections and reduces configuration errors in mixed I/O racks. The unit is supplied as a single module, allowing its channel group to occupy an individual position while preserving the dimensions and connections of the surrounding plug-ins.
