Product Description:
The EJ1100 is an EtherCAT coupler plug-in module produced by Beckhoff in the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. It provides fieldbus connectivity on a carrier board, forming the first node of an EtherCAT I/O segment and transferring real-time data between the controller and downstream terminals. Integrating this coupler on the backplane eliminates discrete wiring and supports distributed automation. Its plug-in design also provides a compact connection point between the EtherCAT network and the attached I/O modules without requiring a separate coupler assembly.
It handles Ethernet traffic at a line speed of 100 MBaud, supporting the deterministic cycle times expected from EtherCAT networks. The uplink and daisy-chain ports are routed through two RJ45 sockets on the carrier, so installation requires standard network connectors. Communication is transmitted over shielded CAT-5 Ethernet cabling, which resists electromagnetic interference common in servo cabinets. The control electronics are energized from the system power rail at 24 VDC, which supplies the integrated physical-layer transceiver and status LEDs. The IP20 protection class makes the housing finger-safe for cabinet installation, but it does not provide protection against liquids. A typical propagation delay of 1 microsecond helps keep process data latency low as frames pass through the coupler to downstream devices.
The coupler measures 55 mm in depth, 44 mm in width, and 66 mm in height, so it occupies little board area while leaving room for adjacent signal modules. Internal logic and downstream terminals are powered by the E-bus, which operates at 3.3 V and can draw up to 2200 mA from the host supply. Segment lengths between couplers may extend to 100 m over copper without repeaters, supporting installation across large machine frames. The unit weighs 65 g, which limits the mechanical load placed on the carrier board. It can operate at altitudes up to 2,000 m, covering most industrial plant locations. The module must be mounted on a shielded carrier that conforms to the EJ plug-in format for proper mechanical support and electrical connection.
