The CX2020-0100 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This compact controller combines CPU, fieldbus interfaces, and a direct terminal bus so it can execute logic and visualization tasks on the DIN rail next to I/O stations. By integrating real-time control, communication, and user-interface functions in one housing, the unit serves as the central automation node in machine cells and process equipment. Its compact format also supports installations where control hardware must fit into narrow cabinet spaces without separating the controller from adjacent terminals.

At its core, an Intel Celeron 827E, 1.4 GHz single-core processor executes PLC cycles and visualization code. This CPU accesses 2 GB DDR3-RAM, while 128 kB of NOVRAM secures remanent data against power loss. Video output is handled by Intel HD Graphics that draws from 128 MB of shared memory to drive local panels. Two Gigabit ports provide 2 × RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet for fieldbus or IT networks, and four USB 2.0 Type A (500 mA) sockets connect service tools or storage media. Up to 2 A is available on the I/O terminal supply line for powering attached EL terminals. The controller ships without an operating system or TwinCAT runtime, allowing the required software stack to be installed separately. Peak internal demand stays within 21 W, easing cabinet thermal design.

Control voltage for the system is supplied through a 24 V DC input, and the backplane can forward up to 10 A on the power contacts to downstream terminals. The housing meets IP20, and dielectric strength is rated at 500 V between supply and ground. Overall dimensions are 144 mm × 99 mm × 91 mm, allowing side-by-side installation with standard DIN components. This compact volume and modest thermal output simplify enclosure layout, while passive conduction cooling removes heat through the aluminum frame. The sealed housing profile also supports reliable cabinet use where direct contact protection and orderly component spacing are required.
