The CU8850-0000 is an EtherCAT junction module manufactured by Beckhoff within the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. It provides a compact way to branch a single EtherCAT line to peripheral sensors, small controllers, or service tools that rely on the USB signaling used for full- and low-speed communication. By combining one RJ45 network port with a Type-A USB receptacle, the unit helps machine builders introduce diagnostics or temporary extensions into an automation segment without disrupting the real-time fieldbus. The integrated format allows a USB access point to be added at the machine without installing a separate standalone interface module.

This junction is powered from an auxiliary supply of 24 VDC and dissipates a maximum of 500 mW, so it adds little thermal load to a cabinet. When a USB device is attached, the data channel supports full-speed throughput of 12 Mbit/s as well as the low-speed fallback of 1.5 Mbit/s; both rates comply with the USB 1.1 standard implemented in the integrated controller. The RJ45 port carries EtherCAT telegrams across CAT5 cabling, and the junction forwards bus power to the downstream side while offering 500 mA of current at the USB output for low-power accessories. Its compact port layout helps simplify installation on densely packed DIN rails and keeps service access close to the machine network.

The allowed extension length on the EtherCAT side is 50 m when a suitable CAT5 patch cord is used, whereas the USB branch should not exceed 5 m to maintain signal integrity. Continuous operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, and storage is permissible up to 70 °C provided humidity does not exceed 95% RH. The housing meets the IP20 protection class and snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail for quick panel assembly. This arrangement suits compact service connections or peripheral links in cabinets where mounting space is limited and protection against accidental contact is required.
