Product Description:
The CU8800-0010 is a compact USB-over-Ethernet extender module from Beckhoff in the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. As a junction, it converts a local USB link into an Ethernet run so that operator panels or service tools can be placed away from the control cabinet. By accepting the USB host side on its upstream port and forwarding the signal through an Ethernet cable, the unit enables flexible layout of automation equipment without the signal degradation normally associated with long USB cables. The CU8800-0010 acts as a bridge between a standard PC-based controller and remote peripherals in an industrial network.
The electronics are powered from a logic supply of 5 V DC, matching the voltage level provided by typical embedded controllers. Data exchange follows the USB 1.1 protocol, and the module reproduces that communication format across its copper extension. The extender link can be stretched up to 50 m when a CAT5 cable is used between the transmitter and receiver ends, providing a much longer reach than a direct USB lead. A hub on the USB host side may draw up to 500 mA, so the module accommodates keyboards, scanners, or maintenance dongles without an external supply. Internal consumption does not exceed 25 mA, and the local USB pigtail may be limited to one meter to comply with signal integrity.
The Ethernet end is terminated on an RJ45 jack, simplifying field installation with standard crimp tools. During panel assembly, the housing slides onto a 35 mm EN 50022 DIN rail, and its 100 mm height leaves space for neighboring I/O terminals. The device has an IP20 housing and is intended for closed cabinets where dust and moisture are controlled. The differential pair supports full-speed transfers up to 12 Mbit/s, so configuration files and other data can reach the remote client without delay while still accepting low-speed operation at 1.5 Mbit/s for legacy human-interface devices.
