The CU8130-0240 is a DIN-rail mounted power and communication module from Beckhoff within the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. In an EtherCAT installation, it acts as a branching node while also delivering buffered 24 V DC to control electronics, so it supports uninterrupted operation of distributed I/O and embedded PCs during brief mains failures. That combination lets one module handle both network branching and short-term power buffering in the same EtherCAT segment. USB and UPS-OCT ports transmit voltage, current, and temperature data in real time so that the PLC can trigger a controlled shutdown or alarm sequence before the stored reserve is exhausted.

Designed for 24 V systems, the module accepts a nominal supply of 24 V DC and can draw up to 240 W from the upstream supply during charging and load support. An internal energy pack rated at 30 Wh is recharged with a controlled 1.04 A current so that the cells are maintained without overheating. The controlled charging current also helps protect the storage cells during normal recharge cycles. When input power is absent, the electronics can supply as much as 9 A to the protected load terminals while keeping the output voltage within tolerance. This allows a maximum load power of 220 W. The housing carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for installation inside a control cabinet.

For cabinet layout, the enclosure measures 100 × 100 × 90 mm and locks onto a TS35×15 2.3 mounting rail without additional brackets. The front panel has 2 × 9-pin push-in terminals that accept the supply feed and distribute outgoing power lines, while charge, discharge, and fault states are shown by 3 diagnostic LEDs for quick visual status checks. Energy storage uses NiMH technology, which avoids the maintenance routines associated with lead-acid packs while still offering high cycle life. This arrangement keeps power connections accessible from the front of the module for orderly cabinet wiring.
