The CU2208-0000 EtherCAT junction is manufactured by Beckhoff and belongs to the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. The module functions as a passive distribution point that splits one incoming EtherCAT trunk into up to eight branches for sensors, drives, or remote I/O stations. It is intended for industrial automation panels where network layout flexibility and deterministic timing are required without adding active switching latency or configuration overhead. The compact housing clips onto a standard DIN rail and relies on Ethernet layer-2 forwarding so no configuration tools are needed during installation.
The junction offers 8 Ethernet ports implemented as shielded RJ45 sockets that accept standard twisted-pair patch cords. Each port negotiates speeds up to 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, and frames are relayed by the internal store-and-forward mechanism, limiting jitter introduced by the device. An internal regulator accepts a supply of 24 VDC; under nominal conditions the electronics draw only 180 mA, which allows the unit to share a control voltage rail with PLCs and other low-current devices. Automatic cross-over detection and selectable half or full duplex keep manual switch settings unnecessary, while two LEDs per channel provide link and activity diagnostics at a glance.
Link parameters are agreed through IEEE 802.3u auto-negotiation, so the controller and attached nodes synchronize without operator input. Copper segments can extend up to 100 m per port, matching the limit of Category 5e cabling commonly routed in machinery. The plastic enclosure snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and, with a contact-safe housing rated IP20, is intended for use inside closed electrical cabinets that offer basic protection against dust and accidental touch. Reverse-polarity protection on the power connector prevents damage if the 3-pole spring terminal is wired incorrectly, and front-panel LEDs simplify troubleshooting of wiring errors.
