Product Description:
The CU2008-0000 is an eight-channel EtherCAT junction produced by Beckhoff and supplied in the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. Installed inside a control cabinet, the unit forms a star point in an EtherCAT segment so that multiple I/O branches can be connected with standard Ethernet cabling. By forwarding telegrams without modifying the data, it supports flexible wiring topologies and simplifies fault isolation in distributed automation cells.
In operation, the junction handles network traffic at a selectable data rate of 10/100 Mbit/s, allowing it to communicate with EtherCAT devices across common Ethernet speeds. Communication can occur in Half/Full duplex mode, so the ports can support either shared or simultaneous send-and-receive operation. The housing provides 8 RJ45 ports wired to the internal switch fabric, and each branch can run on twisted-pair copper up to 100 m from the junction, matching Ethernet Class D limits. Frames are buffered and validated through a Store-and-Forward switching algorithm that checks the CRC before forwarding, which helps reduce error propagation. Auto-negotiation follows IEEE 802.3u, automatic cross-over detection removes the need for special cables, and two LEDs per port report link, activity, and 100 Mb status.
The electronics draw only 100 mA from the control voltage, minimizing load on the system power supply. That supply is a regulated 24 VDC delivered through a pluggable 3-Pin Spring Terminal, which allows quick connection and removal without tools. The plastic enclosure meets IP20 protection, so it is intended for installation inside a closed panel free of conductive dust. Internally, the design follows Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) bus rules and presents a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX interface at every port, allowing direct use of category-rated twisted-pair cables.
