The CU2005-0000 is an EtherCAT junction produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the CU EtherCAT Junctions series. In industrial automation cabinets, it acts as a passive branching point. It lets a controller split one EtherCAT line into multiple segments while maintaining deterministic timing across each port. This layout helps organize network branches in compact control cabinets.

The unit is powered from a control supply of 24 V DC and forwards telegrams at a line speed of 10/100 Mbit/s. Inside the device, the packets are buffered by a Store-and-Forward switch fabric, so each frame is checked for integrity before it is released on the outgoing link. Auto-negotiation compliant with IEEE 802.3u selects the link speed and switches between half-duplex and full-duplex operation as required. Five independent RJ45 sockets provide 5 Ethernet ports, and each socket carries the 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX interface used for EtherCAT and has two diagnostic LEDs that indicate link presence and activity. The circuitry is unmanaged, so no configuration is necessary. Port LEDs, duplex selection, and error filtering all operate without user intervention. A 3-pole spring-loaded terminal supplies operating voltage and ground continuity to the internal electronics, and copper patch cables up to 100 m may be used between this junction and the next device in the line.

The enclosure combines V2A Stainless Steel/Aluminum panels with ventilation slots and still meets the IP20 ingress rating needed for protected cabinet mounting. A rear latch snaps onto a 35 mm DIN Rail, permitting quick installation beside other I/O nodes. Up to 148800 Frames/s can pass through the switch matrix, which helps prevent a bandwidth bottleneck when several fast slaves transmit process data at the same time. Ventilation slots allow heat to escape during operation without adding active cooling hardware.
