The CP9030-4A is a compact panel PC produced by Beckhoff within the CP Panel PC Systems series. The unit combines onboard computing hardware, a display, and extensive connectivity so it can serve as a centralized human-machine interface while the drive PC is located up to 100 m away through CP-Link. In an automation line, the device serves as the front-end operator terminal, presenting process data, accepting touch input, and routing those commands to the embedded controller or to an external industrial PC over its fieldbus interface.
The system communicates with add-on cards over an ISA backplane, allowing legacy motion or data-acquisition modules to remain in service. Visual output is handled by the integrated TFT panel that measures 15 in diagonally, and a 50-pin display header carries its video signals. Two CP-Link ports transfer synchronized video and USB data across 2 coaxial cables, and those links remain stable for runs up to 100 m, which permits cabinet installation far from the operator station. Serial peripherals can connect through a D-SUB 9 female connector, while an identical 9-pin socket is reserved for the optional resistive touchscreen. Additional interfaces include two 5-pin DIN/PS-2 keyboard inputs, a 34-pin floppy-drive ribbon, and a 4-pin auxiliary power plug.
A separate harness provides auxiliary rails of 12 V and 5 V to feed external sensors or small logic boards, and the connector supplies four dedicated pins so load currents do not stress the main motherboard traces. For keyboards, the legacy DIN 5 jack remains available alongside the PS/2 port, giving flexibility when retrofitting older control panels. The floppy-drive path uses 34 conductors to support standard disk-change and motor-enable signals required by certain bootloaders. An integrated UPS header exposes 10 control pins that let backup modules report battery status and receive shutdown commands without additional breakout boards. The touchscreen connection is separate from the general serial port, so operator input hardware does not occupy the peripheral interface.
