Beckhoff's CB3055-0004 is a modular motherboard in the CB Modular Motherboards series, intended for embedded machine controllers where compact x86 computing must fit into DIN-rail or panel PCs. The board supplies CPU and memory resources for embedded control functions. It also aggregates field-level I/O so that PLC runtime and HMI tasks can share a single hardware layer inside industrial automation enclosures with limited space.
The computing core is an Intel Celeron 827E soldered processor that works with the Intel QM67 PCH to furnish PCI Express, SATA, and legacy interfaces required by deterministic control software. System power is delivered at 24 V DC, allowing direct connection to standard control-cabinet supplies without a separate converter. Despite the small 3.5-inch form factor, one SO-DIMM204 memory socket supports up to 8 GByte of DDR3 RAM so soft-real-time tasks can cache sizable process images. Two SATA headers operate at 6 Gb/s for high-speed SSD logging, while two additional 3 Gb/s ports support separate storage roles. The on-board HDA 7.1 codec provides multichannel audio for diagnostics or operator prompts, and two custom 40-pin connectors expose PCIe lanes for proprietary expansion cards.
The carrier measures 102 mm x 147 mm, leaving room for heatsink fins while still fitting into single-slot 19-inch subracks. Networking is handled by 3 Ethernet ports, and each supports 1000Base-T so vision streams and OPC UA traffic can share bandwidth without an external switch. A total of 9 USB 2.0 receptacles accommodate service keys, barcode scanners, or distributed I/O dongles. Four SATA ports allow the operating system, data, and restore volumes to be separated, while the two fastest links maintain full 6 Gb/s throughput. The 2 × 40-pin PCIe headers support fieldbus mezzanines such as EtherCAT junctions, and DDR3 memory technology balances latency with low 1.5 V power draw in compact control systems.
